Canada Day in the Shuswap

One of my favourite events in the Shuswap happens on Canada Day - it's the South Shuswap Canada Day Festivities and Fireworks in Blind Bay. We've been going for as long as I can remember.

There is usually a parade that starts the day and local businesses make some pretty creative floats along with classic cars. There are usually hundreds of people out to watch and then follow the parade to Centennial Field where there's a market, live music, food trucks, games and activities all day long. While the parade isn't take place this year, the rest of the activities are back.

When I first launched Shuswap Soul, the South Shuswap Canada Day market was the first event I ever went to. It was really cool because I got to meet some people who loved the Shuswap as much as I did. Some of the people had already bought some of our tees earlier that spring either online or from On Alex in Salmon Arm who was the first store we worked with. I also got to introduce others to their first piece of Shuswap Soul clothing at the market. It was really fun and exhausting all at the same time. And I told the hockey stick story over and over. I've been back to the Canada Day market in Blind Bay every year since other than the year it was cancelled. Last year's took place during that heat dome and it was so hot.

Anyway, I'm excited to go back again this year - I'll have your favourite Shuswap clothing with me again this year - tank tops, t-shirts, hoodies, hats and stickers for your family.

Don't worry if you aren't planning to be in Blind Bay, there are quite a few other Canada Day events around the Shuswap as well going on this July 1.

Blind Bay

The South Shuswap Canada Day event starts at the Centennial Field with a pancake breakfast and includes an all day market, classic car show, food trucks, live music and warps up with fireworks around 10:30pm.

Scotch Creek

The North Shuswap Summer Festival takes place at Shuswap Lake Provincial Park in Scotch Creek from 9am - 1pm. It includes a pancake breakfast, live music and a market.

Salmon Arm

The Salmon Arm Fairgrounds are home to a Canada Day event called Salmon Arm Countryfest which is a live music event put on by the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society. This is a ticketed event.

Sicamous

The Canada Day activities in Sicamous run all day - there's an art show at the Red Barn from 10am - 4pm, a road hockey tournament, a market from 4-7pm at the Sicamous Legion parking lot and wraps up with the event from 3-9:30 pm at Finlayson Park where there will be outdoor games, activities and a beer garden.

If I've missed any events, feel free to put them into the comments below.
